Project 1 - Riverside ECHG, Liverpool

The Brief

We were asked to replace the timber windows and doors that had reached the end of their lives at a sheltered housing complex in Liverpool. There were special considerations we needed to take into account, as the housing scheme was for older people and was located in a conservation area.

What We Did

The first thing we did was complete a full survey of what was needed. We identified that the complex needed more natural light in its corridors and better thermal efficiency in its communal areas. And, because of the type of residents living there, improved security was a must too.

We supplied and installed 179 fully-reversible aluminium windows as replacements for old wooden ones. The windows were manufactured in a satin-brown colour to match the building using our Sapa Dualframe 75 system. Our Sapa Dualframe high-performance windows were also installed in corridors and communal areas as their design lets light flood in and retains heat. The final thing we did was to change the building's external doors with our Sapa Stormforce doors to tighten security and give the tenants peace of mind.

The Result

The scheme now has windows and doors that will last for many years, is a more pleasant living experience and a safer, more secure environment to spend time in. The response from the residents, housing trust and planning department was very positive, as they all valued the physical benefits made to the property and its pleasing aesthetic values.
