Project 6 - Link Contracting / Lostock Academy
The school, based in Lostock Hall near Preston, wanted to give its science and art block an external overhaul to bring the building up to date, increase its thermal efficiency and help reduce its carbon footprint.
What We Did
We manufactured and installed Comar 5Pi windows and 7Pi doors to the new external envelope of the school. The traditional hanging tiles were replaced with an insulated Metsec stud system to which our windows were installed, before the building’s wrap was finished with Trespa panelling.
Exams were being sat in the science labs during the installation, so we had to be sensitive to the pupils’ needs. That means installing the windows into the Metsec system ahead of schedule, and removing the existing steel crittall windows around the school timetable and exams to minimise disruption.
We finished the project on time and completed the 92 windows and 6 sets of doors within our agreed 3-week period.
The architect, head teacher and main contractor are thrilled with the completion and timescale of the works, especially given their complexity. We are due to undertake a second phase of works to another block at the same school this autumn.
