CE Marking – What is it and does it affect you?

CE Marking was introduced to our industry in July this year. It's been around in Europe since the early '90s and is a set of regulations governing performance, safety and the environment that everyone involved in the installations world has to adhere to.

It applies to any product that is installed into a property, either residential, industrial or commercial, from the start of July. Any windows or doors fitted after this date must either carry the CE Mark on them in the form of a sticker or the company that did the installation must display the CE Mark on its website and company literature. Failure to do so can result in a large fine from Trading Standards and possible revocation of certain professional memberships, such as FENSA. And the regulations only apply to complete units, so they must be glazed when installed.

At Total Glass, we're BS-EN 14351-1 compliant which means our windows and doors far exceed the standards required for CE Marking. But we still have to display the mark by law. We've opted not to provide stickers on our units and simply have the CE Mark in a prominent position on this website and can provide any information you and your customers might need. However, if you buy an unglazed window or door unit you will have to add your own CE Mark to it. We can provide a huge-range of glazing options for you, all manufactured here in house, so you can find the perfect glass for your customers and get a fully CE Marked completed unit at the same time.
