Project 4 - St David’s School, Wigan
The school wanted a number of special features including in its major refurbishment. As well as new window screens and entrance doors, it was also looking to incorporate the school emblem into the new main doorway and install specially made circular apex-windows.
What We Did
We manufactured and installed four large window wall screens and entrance doors. They were manufactured using our Sapa aluminium system, and we powder coated them in RAL 7016 grey so they would be in keeping with the original building, constructed in the 1840s. We also manufactured and installed the round windows that replaced the steel, single-glazed ones that were currently there. The glass in these windows, and all the others we installed, was tinted to reduce the glare from sunlight on bright days, and produce solar gain on less warm days. And we were able to fit safety-glass with the school's badge pattern into the new entrance door.
As well as the new windows and doors looking fantastic, they are also more energy-efficient and secure. The colour scheme and style fits in with both the traditional older building and the contemporary new extension. Generations of children and teachers will be able to enjoy the building for many years to come.
